Deshun to attend Laureus World Sport Awards in St Petersburg!

"I can't believe it!  This is incredible and another of my dreams come true!"
This is how, a visibly stunned, Deshun reacted after Morne du Plessis (head of the SA chapter of the international Laureus Sport for Good Foundation) called to invite her to the 2008 international Laureus World Sports Awards in St Petersburg, Russia, on 18 Feb!    For those unfamiliar with the event it can best be described as the sports equivalent of the Oscars and, if you don't believe me, here's a small sample of this year's nominees: Lewis Hamilton, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, Justine Henine, the Ferrari motor racing team, the Bokke....    (for details of all the nominees visit the Laureus website at http://www.laureus.com/nominees).   In addition the event is attended by international sport stars from years gone by, many of whom are Friends and Ambassadors of Laureus and participate in the Foundation's international efforts to use sport to bring about social change.

Deshun summited Mount Elbrus (Russia) in August 2007 and, on that visit, time constraints prevented her from visiting St Petersburg so Laureus' invitation is doubly exciting.   Not only will she rub shoulders with sporting luminaries at a magical, gala event but do so in magnificent St Petersburg, the city that Tsar Peter the Great began building in the 1700's.   Although the city's grand exteriors belie the social turmoils it has seen, the pervading grandeur of the city gives it a feeling of being almost separate from our time and makes it a perfect venue for the fabulous Laureus awards.
