Thank you all for amazing support!!!!
I've been absolutely amazed at the amount of support and interest there has been for the Kilimanjaro trip. It's times like these and people like you (loyal supporters) that make my efforts at high altitude worthwhile. I appreciate all the prayers and positive energy that was passed along the networks in cyberspace!
Just so you know, the group who had reached the top of Kilimanjaro at Gillman's point said a prayer for the continent. For Africa - our home. We especially prayed for areas of conflict like Kenya and Darfur. If you wish, you could join us in keeping the prayer alive.
I want to also say a BIG THANKS to 1st for Women Insurance Brokers (FFW) for making this climb possible. Their belief in what I'm doing made has made real my biggest dream - to climb the 7 Summits. With the support of FFW people, like Hannes "Superwoman" Wilken and Kedi "Going-like-a-boeing" Maponyane, the 7 Summits dream is closer to reality than ever before. Hannes and Kedi, thank you guys for your dedication, commitment and participation. It would not have been the same without you.
Thami Ngubeni, editor of "O" - the Oprah Magazine, did an amazing job keeping the adventure alive for her readers. Her steely determination and strength of mind is hard to beat. A powerful, yet absolutely feminine, woman. Well done on Kili, Thami! .
"O's" competition winner, Andy Kawa, inspired me to stay feminine in spite of the brutal conditions on the mountains. Wearing a string of pearls and matching earrings all the way, she epitomised the quintessential lady and never wavered in her feminine presence. Thanks Andy.
Then there are the FFW competition winners: Bonnita and Allison. You guys are amazing!!! If your families and colleagues are not impressed by now, I don't know what would convince them that you are SUPER women!!!!! South African women have great strength and you proved it!!! Well done to both of you. Derek is a man who knows this and supports his woman!!! What a man. I think all South African men should take a leaf out of his book. You go Derek!!
And last, but not least. Our brave, wonderful, tough cameraman, Jan Horn. Jan has been an amazing support and inspiration on so many mountains. He has seen the many sides of me at high altitude and is still my friend. Thank you for not only supporting this dream, but dreaming it with me. Jy's a vriend Duisend!!!
Now, with 5 mountains on five continents to go, I hope that you all will not get bored with all our stories and keep supporting our mission.
I need a day at a spa and lots of pampering. Perhaps I should do expeditions to the 7 best spas on the 7 continents......any takers?
